It is hard to believe the 727 square-mile-island has two volcanos tops at 10000 feet. It takes around 2 hours to drive from the beach to the top of the Haleakala Crater. The drive starts at a tropical-weathered (80 degrees f =27C) beach slowly up hill to farms and residential area where we visited a Lavender Garden, one of the most beautiful garden I’ve ever been to. Then it’s a “blind” drive through the dense fog and clouds for about an hour before we reach the entrance of Haleakala National Park. When we got out of the car at the park, it was already 60 degrees f (15C). Then it’s another 30 min drive to the peak when we just made it in time for the sunset. Though we were froze to death, but the sunset was worth it. The lavender scent is very strong, I was like a bee attracted by it
